Ian Cammish: Time Trialling 'Legend' / 'icon' / 'wannabe' / 'has-been' / whatever floats your boat.
The what, why and wherefore of British Time Trialling as seen through the eyes of me … Ian Cammish, holder of over 50 National Cycling Championships and Records. Or ... the aftermath of an extended college project, “how to create a web-site” by son Jack, aged 17, Hills Road College, Cambridge. (I think winning and breaking over 50 National Championships and records were easier!).
“I could write a book” I said. But Peter Whitfield, author of Twelve Champions, The Condor Years and more, told me “there’s no money in it” so for anyone who’s interested here’s a totally free, unexpurgated insight into time trialling through the ages from yours truly … Ian Cammish aged 55 ¼.
Over the forty-plus years I've been cycling, a lot of influential people have helped me achieve what I set out to do but inevitably, over the period of time, we have all each gone our own separate ways. This is just one way of expressing my gratitude to you all. If it also brings back fond memories of yesteryear to any time trialling enthusiasts who happen to stumble on the site, then so much the better :-)
PDQPB stem
New In ... STRICTLY limited supply. Please read this VERY carefully!
Some time ago we started selling PDQPB bars. Over the years they have been extremely popular but, as some customers have found, options were limited when it came to find a suitable aero stem to fit (due to the relatively narrow stem clamping area ... 47 mm or so). Okay if you're 'loaded' or have a rich sugar daddy and can afford a TriRig or Enve (for example) but if you're skint like me you'd need something different.
So ... we briefly introduced a G2 set of bars which very conveniently coupled up nicely with 'cheaper' aero stem options (like the Profile Aeria).
Unfortunately the manufacturer of the G2 version chose to significantly increase the price since our original purchase and the RRP of any future stock would have to reflect that if we chose to replenish our stock.
Bearing in mind the PDQPB bars currently retail at just £249.99 we don't think customers would be inclined to pay significantly more for something that is so marginally different ... so at the moment it is unlikely that we will be restocking them.
Well that's the bad news.
The GOOD news is that we since been able to source a stem which will fit the original PDQPB bars.
We think they're gorgeous!
However, if you want one ... please carefully read on!
We did once sell aero stems ... but 'mechanical numpties' with more muscle than money (and brains!) ruined it for everyone by tightening the stems beyond the recommended torque levels when they found their bars slipped. Slipping bars are NOT uncommon (Google it and see for yourself) but there are a number of remedies available to solve the problem ... one of which is NOT to tighten the fitting bolts (well) beyond the acceptable / recommended level. We could not prove these steroid fueled faux-pasers exceeded the recommended torque levels so took it upon ourselves to refund or replace any that failed (as a result of that). Needless to say, that did not make good business sense ... so we decided to stop selling them.
Since then however, we have continuously been receiving emails along the lines of ' have you any PDQ aero stems available to fit the PDQPB bars?'
Well now we have. But just a few! (for now).
These ones are even better than the last model.... BUT ... we are not providing any sort of warranty on them So if you over-torque them ... tough!
SO ... BUYER BEWARE ... AND ALL THAT! NO WARRANTY PROVIDED WITH THESE STEMS. IF THEY BREAK FOR ANY REASON (WHATSOEVER) WE ARE NOT LIABLE. WE WON'T REPLACE. WE WON'T REFUND. LOOK ON THEM AS PAPER-WEIGHTS!
